The sun rays make them both stir at morning.

Arnav opened his eyes slowly and watched Khushi sleeping;  taking one hands under her cheeks, he felt the silky texture of her skin.

“Morning, beautiful!” Arnav whispered in her ear huskily.

“Morning…. Arnav ji…” Khushi clutched his arm, yawned and rubbed her sleepy eyes like a baby.

“You know you are so adorable?” Arnav looked at her half closed eyes.

“I do. (smiling) but tell me what are you doing here Arnav Ji?” Khushi used to calling his name adding with a’ji’ when she will sound cheeky… “You should not come here every morning….”

“Really?” Arnav arched an eye-brow. It was only some weeks since he came and actually it is not everyday when he will sit on a arm chair and sleep with Khushi.

“Ya. Every morning you will come, wake me up from my sweet slumber and then when I will try to touch you, you will vanish…”

“Vanish?”

“Vanish!” She stressed that word, “I know you again came in my dream only. Just when I will try to kiss you, you will leave me…” She pouted.

“Oh… then let’s try again, shall we?” Arnav leaned on her cheeks and planted a kiss soundly.

“hawww!” Khushi’s eyes popped out, “You….you are real?” she asked, still out of breath.

“I am!” Arnav eyed her lips. “But you never told me your secret desire, did you?.... It seems I should known the better uses of these rose buds…”

Khushi covered his lips with her palm and nodded a ‘no’ in the sweetest way possible. His blushing princess had a huge tingle-red blush all over her face. Her honey-eyes shone brightly with love and satisfaction.

She steadily hid herself in his arms, where Arnav’s protective arms held her close; out of every bad the come across.

That night Garima and Shashi had a huge fight. Garima was desperate to give birth her first child in her maternity home, but Shashi wanted his princess and queen before his eyes, in the mension. His work will not permit him to stay away from Rajasthan for long. And here Garima was stubborn than ever.

He did not understand…why?

But Garima did.

As each day passed, she felt more suffocated. It was not the costly lifestyle, the different cuisines, the big high-status-life.

It was a fear.

She was unknown at first. Then tried to ignore thinking may be this is how ‘rich’ people used to behave. But slowly it felt like a poison.

Poison was in the air.

She could not say it to any one, except Kavya.

“Are you okay Garima?” Kavya had asked her that day. The young girl had lost her apatite a lot,  she barely ate, barely slept… dark circles has take their place. She no more laughed, or cracked jokes. Once, she was the only rays of life here. But…..
Kavya prayed. Hope his husband was not behind this. Hope.

“Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly.”

“They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world; someone to love, something to do and something to hope for.”

Kavya had lost the hope from her life. She always tried to cling onto life. She hoped, one day she will just open her eyes and will see the change. Change in his husband; love, respect and cooperation, these were what she wanted from him.

But the bitterest truth was different after all.

Her husband’s eyes were on Garima. Who was like her little sister.
And apparently he is after her child. A child of Shashi and Garima. Avinav could not bear that Garima can have a child with someone else.
“Get out of here …Garima…” Kavya merely whispered.

“Wh—what?”

“He will not let it live… (Touching the unburned child)… hide yourself somewhere… or he will not…” She gasped for air.

Poison was in the air….

Avinav was looking intently on the printed invitation cards… which one to choose? “Each of these has one fault or another.”

“What do you want?”

Avinav looked the person standing in dark. “What are you talking about, amma?”

“This love, this care…? You have never cared of your children, did you? Then why this party?” Her wrinkled face twisted with distaste for her son, “You must have a reason behind…”

“I do!” Avinav said calmly. “By the way, they are NOT my children, whoever they are, they are Kavya’s. But to have done my work in my way, I can do anything. Looks like you forgot, amma?”

“I did not! That is way I asked you, Avi.”

“I will declare my son’s marriage date.”

“What???” Dadi asked bewildered.

“You have heard right! Arnav will get married to….”

“Khushi??”

“No… with Sheetal.”

Dadi sat on her sit with a thump.

Next part trailer::

“I want my daughter’s marriage to be held with Arnav…” Garima spoke to Sashi, “Consider it as by last wish…”

“I never believed you would do this to us Avi!” Shashi broke. “At least think… think of Bhabhi ji!!”

“What is there to think of Shashi? Good bye, to you two…” Avinav cut the call with a grin….

Part 5

“The sweetest smiles hold the darkest secrets...”
― Sara Shepard

Avinav Raizada is known as a cunning man in his sector. Even ever he set his eyes on something; it was as if, very natural that he will get it. No one, absolutely had the audacity to stop him. In his knowledge, not even god himself.

And what happens when he do not get his desire?

Destruction.

25 years years ago, Avinav Raizada was the same man, but with least wealth. He was a middle classed man, with big ego and impossible dreams.

Shashi Gupta looked at the mension with admired eyes. All their hard work is paying them back, Avinav and he started the fashion business before 6 years. Back then, all these luxuries seemed to impossible. But with Shashi’s hard word and honesty, and Avinavs determination and big dream took them in new height.

The house was also their join cooperation. They decided to stay under one roof, with each other’s love, respect and friendship.

But shashi gupta was wrong.

“Avinav, meet my wife, Garima. Garima, as I told you before, this is my childhood-friend, Avi.” Shashi introduced each other.

But the young, full of life Garima’s eyes moved on the huge building with admiration. She was a middle class girl who never saw such thing in her life. Now, as they moved to live in this mension, her excitement knew no bounds.

“Hum yaha rahenge Sashi ji?” She rounded her eyes with shock, “Kitne bare haweli!”
(We will stay here Shshi ji?.... “ Such a big house!)

“Yes, we will.” Shashi looked at his wife cordially. They had age difference, but that never affected the love and respect they had for each other. Happily married, they were.

Avinav looked at the girl infront of him. ‘Sunshine’ was the only word he could say in his mind. Always happy and jovial. And look at his fate! God has gifted him an unfortunate life indeed! His wife, Kavya Raizada was just the opposite of Garima Gupta.

Kavya Raizada, a very calm and quite lady, with a sophisticate taste and splendid nature.
Her eyes used to speak volume, rather than her lips. She had immense power to tie her family with love; ‘Love’ was the word she believed in. She belonged to a rich family, but her dreams used to be same as the other girls, having a lovely family and a good-honest husband who will love her, always.

                                                   (Imagine her as Arnav's mother)

Maybe, god had other plans for her. Neither she got a good family, nor a caring-husband. All he did was took all the wealth from which she got from her family. Most of his nights were spent in “Kotta” (A particular living place for prostitutes.)
His greed and inhuman nature shattered her dreams, forever.

“This is Kavya.” Avinav spit with distaste. Shashi and Garima greeted her cordially.

“Namaste jij!” Garima hugged her. (Hello, Sister!)

Kavya felt her eyes wet. After many years she felt some one’s genuine love for her.
“Welcome dear!” She smiled.

Nobody knew, but one pair of eye had everything other than love for Garima. It is called lust; lust was the first signal of destruction of their life.

Avinav looked at Garima’s feature shamelessly. “I want her…” His desire for something forbidden rose his inner demon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You thought you will get her, eh?” Sarcasm was mixed in that voice. “ But it’s late, my son. Anjali and Khushi… you will get none of them.”
“No…No! You can’t do this!” Arnav tried to locate his sister and Khushi in the pitch dark room.  Suddenly a light came into his view. He looked at them in horror.
His sister was lying in the floor lifeless. A thin line of blood adorned her white ‘saree’. His legs made attempts to run and hug her, but he could not move an inch. “Di!! No…No!!!”
“Wont you look at your Khushi, son?” A voice came from nowhere; an invisible strength turned his legs like a jelly. “Khushi! Where are you?” He shouted.
“Arnav!” A shrink hoarse voice took his attention. “I… I am …” She could not say anything more.
“Khushi…don’t leave me… Don’t you dare leave me!” Arnav cried with agony. His throat hurt with pain. His body was cold with distress. “I will save you!”
“Good bye, Arnav ji…” She closed her eyes, her lips trembled with painful smile, “I love you…”
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~

“Khushi!!” Arnav sat up on his bed, his body trembled like a leaf. The sudden turmoil almost stopped his heart from beating.

He took long breath to steady himself. “Nightmare, only a nightmare...” he chanted to himself.

Beads of sweat made their way over his body. It was past mid night.
 “I need to see them.”

He located their room in dark and peeped through the opened door.

A wave of relief washed him. They were alright.

Their angelic face reduces his depression. Taking the seat beside bed he smiled. Indeed, they were the lights of his life.

“I will save you two.” He muttered. “I won’t let you leave me. I have no-one except you now… how can I let you go?”

Khushi never thought things will come up like this. She spent her whole life in waiting for Arnav. Arnav… was the only name she chanted. Not because he married her, not because he was her love.

Because he was her friend, the only man who know her inside and out.

Then why this restlessness?

She felt her heart beating. So loudly that I can burst any time.

“Abhi unhe dekha bhi nehi toh ye halat hai… dekhungi to kya hoga?” She spoke aloud to herself.
(I still didn’t see him. Don’t know what I shall do when I see him!)

Her feet moved from here to there, trying to steady her heart-beat. She felt her palm getting wet; her weak legs protested again her stop.

“Ok now Khushi… Stop now!” She said to herself. It is just him! And you are acting as if he is someone you need to be scared…

She tried to water the plants of his trees. Most of the trees used to be Arnav’s and her kakisa (Aunty- mother of  Arnav). But after her ‘dihanth’ and Arnav’s going to ‘pardesh’ she was the one who looked after the precious memories.

She started to talk with the plants, as she always did every morning… though her mind and eyes were on door today.

Suddenly a manly figure appeared… slowly from the mild darkness it started to come into her vision.

Her hands shook and she left the bucket on floor with a sound.

“Kaun?” She asked, as if to the wind around her. Her ‘Dhak Dhak’ knew for sure.

It was Arnav.

The figure wearing dark-causal blue shirt appeared before her.
With little frown he searched for her existent… the trees as if were shielding her body from his eyes. But he found at last.

He looked at her. What was he thinking when he was searching for her? Excited? Confused? Or just love?
His each and every feeling betrayed him. They left him for some kind of holiday.
His eagle eyes observed her from toe to head, with keen interest. With all the time of the world.

Many times he tried to imagine her. His Khushi… how she will look? Her eyes? Her nose…? And, her lips? Are they same when he last saw them with his heart’s content or they changed their shape and color?

They are changed.
Her Eyes were bigger with the same honey colored intensity, trying to pull him to her like magnet.
Her nose is a small like button, which used to turn into red when ever he used to shout at her or she was cold.
Her cheeks were more soft, softer than he last felt. It held a light blush as he looked at her with desire… the cheek bones lift them with glory, when she smiled.
Her lips are fuller than previous times. They are rosy, soft and tempting. when ever she would have moved those curvy lips, he would forget the world around him.

He leaned on the entrance door, as his legs refused to move further.

She was beautiful. His long time imagination failed him.
Her beauty was above his knowledge.

*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#

Khushi dared not to move. Arnav was only a dream, a desire to her till yesterday.
But seeing him before her vary eyes was different. Se felt he was an imagination of her crazy heart, which will vanish if she move or try to touch him.

His fine feature stopped her breath. Till today she dreamt of a lean-slender-good looking teenager; but this man?! He was beyond everything.

His skin was wheat-golden in color, mixing with dark blue tea-shirt and formal pants he looked no less than Greek-god.

Her eyes moved on his body, observing with same desire and making him weak on his feet.

His hair was black in color, made with pure silk. His forehead was adorned with frown line, making him more responsible and sensible. His broad neck and shoulder had their own charm, making her want to put her hands around and never leave them.

His hands were strong and well-toned, his fingers were much bigger than her little ones… she wondered about the feeling when he will hug her…
His shirt was hugging his muscle with all their might, making her realize he have six-pack abs.

His manly scent hid the scent of flowers… and to her, it the only air she needed. Breath had a new meaning in her life.

But most charming was his eyes. Eyes that did not changed in these long years. Eyes, that sparked when she was beside him.

Eyes, that spoke volume, when there was no use of lips.

Eyes, that made her realize how much they adored her.

After a long time Arnav started to take steps towards Khushi. She did not back away like previous time, because there was absolutely no space left to go behind… just a wall behind and Arnav in front. Her hands clutched the broad scarf she was wearing.

“Did I participate in some marathon race?” She asked herself. Her lips shook like it was cold weather, though fire shook her like she was standing on burning vessel.

“Khushi?” was the first word of Arnav. His mind stopped working. He looked at her tightly shut eyes.

"ji?” (yes?) She shuddered again.

“Tum thik ho?” (Are you alright?) He asked with concern.
How can she be alright when he was standing before her… so close?”

“aakhain nehi khologi?” He asked with a smile. Her innocence love was warming his cold heart after a long time.

She nodded in negative. “aakhain nehi kholna hai, aap phir se hawa main mil jaoge.” (I Will not open my eyes… you will again vanish in air…) She feared with the thought of losing him in air.

His chest pained for her. All they had with them was only memories of childhood.
He was lonely amongst many people living around. Delhi was a stranger for him…. He had no one who would heal his burning pain. The desire to meet Khushi was strong…. Sometimes so strong that he used to pack his belongings and start for Rajasthan. But later he had to come back from street again. He could not go back there penniless.

“I have come back Khushi… for us.” He cupped her cheeks, feeling her warm skin was something he could not put in words.

She slowly opened her eyes. Her teary eyes looked at his chocolate ones with pain, “aap a gaye?” (You came back?)

He could just nod. The choked throat did not let him say anything more.
“Aapki bohot yaad aati thi hume… har pal kase gujra…” She sobbed quietly.
“Har pal ek saja tha Khushi…” Arnav said with a choked voice. (Each moment was like a punishment Khushi…)

“Kavhi hume chorke nehi jayenge?” She asked to be reassured. (You will never leave me alone?)

Arnav touched her forehead with his, closing his eyes he whispered, “Kabhi nehi.” (Never.)
Khushi hugged him tightly and broke into loud sob. Days of anguish and anger were washed by their tears. Pain of endurance was over.

The love found the way which was lost.
A way that tied their hearts together.
